Assuming 'carbon neutral' means that 100% of carbon used is offset, our aim is to reach between 150- 200% of carbon emissions being offset.
Our ambition is to be Queensland's first (and one of Australia's first) 'carbon positive' concerts. This will involve using sustainable practices and choices in the organizational process in order to reduce carbon emissions. Carbon emissions will be measured and audited, with all ticket revenue going towards Federal Government approved carbon offsets. We will know if we have been successful once we have...
- Obtained a finalised carbon report (telling us what it will take to be carbon neutral based on our carbon emissions)
- Finalised our total income
- Established the cost of carbon offsets
- Worked out what percentage of our overall usage we will be able to afford to offset (hopefully 150-200%)
- At this point we will know if we are carbon positive!
We have engaged Carbon Neutral, a not-for-profit carbon auditing company to compile a carbon report using the information that we will provide regarding our energy, transport and other usage.
We are trying to change the way that festivals approach their commitment to sustainability. Many festivals detail their sustainability commitments with sections on their websites, and we hope to float the idea that carbon positive is an important concept to consider for the future.
